What Was, Released explores the moment something shifts internally — when what has been carried for a long time begins to loosen, soften, or fall away. The work sits within the emotional space between holding on and letting go, reflecting on the quiet complexity of release rather than a single resolved ending.

Layered surfaces, fragmented marks, and areas of movement create a sense of transition throughout the painting. Forms emerge and recede, suggesting memory, change, and the lingering presence of what came before. Rather than presenting release as dramatic or absolute, the work considers it as something slower and more nuanced — an unfolding process of recognition, surrender, and emotional movement.
