Thread Between Two Worlds – What We Carry: The Magpie Series

About the work

Mixed media on board with LED light. – Acrylic, gold spray paint, led light

Framed in black wood—60 x 80 x 5 cm. (23.6″ x 31.4″ x 2″)

Thread Between Two Worlds explores the delicate space between states of being — the threshold where movement, change, and connection quietly unfold. The magpie is positioned at this edge, neither fully within nor outside, acting as a messenger between worlds.

A green LED line cuts through the composition like a living thread. It introduces light as both divider and connector — a boundary that separates, but also guides. The glow brings a sense of energy and tension, suggesting transition, passage, and the unseen forces that pull us forward.

Gold leaf and layered texture ground the work in weight and history, while the illuminated line disrupts the surface, drawing the eye through the figure and beyond. The contrast between permanence and electricity reflects the balance between what we carry from the past and what is still becoming.

Within What We Carry: The Magpie Series, this piece speaks to liminality — the in-between moments where identity, direction, and meaning remain fluid, held briefly in light.
