Release explores surrender, movement, and emotional shift — the moment tension begins to soften and something held too tightly is finally allowed space to move. Rather than depicting release as a single act, the painting reflects the quieter process of loosening, unfolding, and gradual transformation.

Layered textures and shifting forms create a sense of motion throughout the work, suggesting both fragility and resilience. Areas of openness sit alongside denser marks and surfaces, holding a balance between containment and freedom. Repeating marks and patterns emerge across the surface, echoing the ways experiences, memories, and behaviours can resurface throughout our lives until they are finally recognised and released.

For me, this painting is an exhale — a deeper understanding of self, an acceptance of what has been carried, and a willingness to let go of patterns that no longer serve.

Part of the In Motion series, the work continues an exploration of transition, internal movement, and the changing relationship between memory, emotion, and self.
