Laid Bare

Canvas size: 35cm W x 28cm Ht

Mixed Media on board, framed covered in pink physio tape. Acrylic paint, collage, gold leaf

This is from a capsule collection created for the “Unapologetic” exhibition, part of an ongoing exploration of self-identification, with a particular focus on body parts often subject to sexualization. I repeated this blue mountain range, i wanted to lie beneath it, protected by the ground, in a naked, vulnerable state.

Over the past year (2023), I underwent significant weight loss, causing those physical characteristics to diminish. Now, I find myself questioning my identity. Why have I clung to this physical image as the core of who I am? Why not emphasize my intellectual capabilities or other personality traits? This introspection raises fundamental questions about self-worth.
