Peek-a-boo – What We Carry: The Magpie Series
About the work
Mixed media on board. Spray paint, Ink, Acrylic, gold leaf
Framed in black wood —31 x 26 x 1 cm. (12.2″ x 10.2″ x 0.4 )
Peek-a-Boo plays with the act of appearing and disappearing — the moment of reveal that is both playful and slightly charged. The magpie is partially concealed, emerging just enough to be seen, as if testing the boundary between presence and absence.
There is humour in the gesture, but also intent. The work reflects on curiosity, watchfulness, and the small interruptions that draw our attention — those fleeting moments when something catches the eye and asks to be noticed.
Layered colour, texture, and mark-making create a sense of movement and anticipation beneath the surface. Within What We Carry: The Magpie Series, this piece offers a lighter rhythm, reminding us that not every encounter needs explanation — sometimes it’s simply a glance, a reveal, and a quiet exchange between viewer and subject.
